Team News June 8th

This past Friday, two of our Colavita junior racers, Brandon Forman and Michelle Blake, visited Lake Mary Elementary School to talk to students about bicycle safety and show off different types of bicycles. Michelle stressed how important it is to wear a helmet while riding and Brandon showed off his skills on his road bike, bmx bike and unicycle. The students were captivated by Michelle's trick riding on her highwheel bike and enjoyed being helped into the high saddle by Brandon. The smile on their faces showed what a good time they all had!
The team points standing are now up on FloridaCycling.com and Team Colavita is holding a strong lead in juniors 10-12 and 13-14, as well as 3rd place in juniors 15-16. In the categories, we currently also have 7th place in Men 5s and 4th in Women 4s. Keep up the good work!
We would also like to mention what a fabulous race TCR put on this past weekend in Stuart, FL. Thank you so much for providing trophies for the juniors on Saturday and such great prizes on Sunday. And big hug goes to Anne Teather for organizing "swag bags" for all the racers on Saturday and all the 10-18 year olds who competed in the Toyota of Stuart criterium on Sunday. The sponsor of the race, Toyota of Stuart, also gave out numerous cash primes to all the fields. Everyone really appreciated the work you went to put on this wonderful race. We can't wait until next year!

Casey Braga's Win at Lake Louisa

The Lake Louisa crits are in Lake Louisa state park. The course is hilly and very fast. There is an A and a B race. I raced and won the B race. At the start I stayed at the front half of the pack. Then I tried a solo attack and held it for a mile, till the pack caught me. For the rest of the race I stayed in the front and middle of the pack. Toward the end I was about to ease up a hill until Tracy Mullins, a strong Armada team rider told me (yelled at me) to keep going. Then 4 or 5 guys were in a breakaway 200 meters before the finish. I caught up to them and sprinted on the far side of them. Francisco, another strong Armada racer, started to sprint and try to catch me. I saw him and put more power to the pedals and sprinted to the finish. That was my first non-junior race win.

What a GREAT weekend! Our riders were just super by winning TWO state TT titles. I would like to give a lot of credit to the PARENTS of our juniors who did a fantastic job of keeping the kids cool and hydrated while warming up and providing portable shade on the start line. You people are the BEST!

I want to especially thank Paul Hardison and Doreen McGauvran for coming to the aid of a young rider that passed out at the end of his TT. It is nice to know we have such caring people on our team.
